November 2 - December 14 (no class the day after thanksgiving)
A portion of the course fee will go to the Oregon Food Bank
(drop ins allowed, registration encouraged)

First six week course: Learn to develop an awareness and appreciation of breath. Each week, we will start with an appropriate asana practice to prepare a particular component of the breath. Learn various pranayama techniques, and simple ratios, focusing on gradually improving the quality and the length of the breath. We will also discuss the importance and benefits of pranayama, referring to various classical texts.

Second six week course: We begin to turn inward, using the breath as a preparation for meditation, learning to observe the quietness inside. Working with retentions and mantras, we begin to practice pranayama with an object of focus. Eventually, the breath itself will be a focus for meditation. The goal of these 6 weeks is to understand, through our practice, pranayama as described in the Yogasutras.

A regular personal practice is essential for working with the breath. Students will be given a short pranayama course to practice daily, and suggestions for what asanas they may use to prepare for this practice. We will modify the asanas and pranayama based on the individual.

Individual Yoga Instruction and Private Yoga Therapy Sessions with teachers: Matt Huish, Jody Kurilla, Nandini Ranganathan, Timo Jimenez, and Maureen Clyne.

Private Instruction is available for half hour to two hour sessions. Privates are a valuable way to increase your knowledge about specific and individualized practices as well as a good place to come for yoga therapeutics.

Yoga Therapy uses many tools of yoga including asana, chanting, prananyama (breath), meditation and visualization. The careseeker may come for physical pain issues as well as help with a personal practice for stress, emotional components, or to help one through a difficult time in life.

The greatest benefit of a private is that you get a practice designed by an experienced professional that is created specifically for YOU- your body, your personality, your problems, helping YOU to connect spiritually. Personalized practices often allow for more effective and more quickly achieved results.

The rates for private sessions vary depending on the teacher and the length of the sessions. For more information about the teachers, their lineage and approach to Yoga Therapy, and price structures please visit the rest of our website.
