TRANSCENDING OUR STORIES, EMBRACING A WORLD OF POSSIBILITY
with Caverly Morgan
Sunday, February 5, 1:00 - 3:30pm
Sliding Scale: $35 - 55
What stories have been woven about who you are? How do these stories frame the world you live in? What limitations has your conditioned mind created?
When caught in our stories, we are removed from the world of possibility and of interconnectedness. Without seeing how these stories have come into being, as well as how they are maintained, we cannot step back from them enough to access what's beyond. What we are unconscious to silently governs us.
In this workshop – through journaling exercises, guided imagery, meditation and group discussion – we will focus on seeing how our stories create the world we live in. You will learn specific tools that liberate you from the apparent 'truth' of these stories and assist in creating the life you want to have rather than the life that assumes that you are alone, disconnected, and without choice. A chant will be offered that opens the system to the experience of interconnectedness. Join us as we open ourselves to a world of possibility that lies beyond our conditioning.
This workshop will be open to those new to the Awareness Practice Caverly offers through One House of Peace as well as to seasoned practitioners.

Sliding Scale $20 - $30
Combining two ancient modalities to assist you along your path to wellness. Both Restorative Yoga and Acupuncture bring you a sense of calm, ease, and well-being. Join Traci and Katie in this one of a kind workshop to explore the possibilities of your inner landscape.
Restorative yoga is the art of letting go and practice of simplicity. It can be a challenging practice; quiet, passive, and inwardly focused. Using many tools of yoga, such as pranayama (conscious breathing), meditation, and passive placements of the body, we can move away from tension, anxiety, strain, and physical ailments and move towards balance, harmony, and a restored sense of being. A perfect compliment to an active asana practice, or for those that an active practice is not appropriate or desired. Restorative is open to all levels and does not require any previous experience.
During the restorative poses, acupressure and essential oils will be used to enhance the effects of the pose. Acupuncture promotes health and wellbeing by the use of thin, painless needles. The true meaning of yoga is a life well lived with deep contentment and satisfaction. It is not realized on a mat or in a difficult posture, though they can play a role. Rather, the true meaning of yoga is practiced, moment by moment, as we move about the world in our daily lives. It is demonstrated (or not) in our interactions with friends, colleagues and family members & in how we respond to situations. The real power of yoga lies in the profoundly positive ways it changes every aspect of our human system and the amazing ramifications of that on how we experience life.
Patanjali’sYogasutra, composed over 1700 years ago in India, is one of the most authoritative texts on yoga. It’s concise presentation of how to bring yoga off the matt (remove extra “t”, do the same on the TT page as well) and into daily life is considered an ‘owner’s manual’ for life & has guided the practice of countless generations of yogis. This series of workshops will examine chapter one in depth, sutra by sutra & word by word. Along the way, we will cover foundational concepts of Yoga as a topic, as a practice, and most importantly, as a teaching to be embodied each moment of each day. Each session will include short a asana & meditation practice, instruction in chanting of the Yogasutra, and lecture & discussion. Workshops may be taken separately and need not be in order.

IYENGAR & PURNA RESTORATIVE YOGA with Drew de Man
3rd Sundays, February 19, 2:00 - 4:00pm • $20
All Yoga is 'restorative'. During a Restorative Yoga class, however, the poses are done with the support of props which facilitate holding the poses without strain. The work may be less dynamic, but the effect is not – stillness begets rest, rest begets relaxation. Deep relaxation occurs when tension and stress are released and the breath softly expands. The mind also experiences stillness and rest, which restores energy, concentration and a sense of well-being on all levels. This two hour class, held on the third Sunday of each month, is an excellent opportunity to experience the Iyengar approach to restorative Yoga. Therapeutic sequences and adjustments are incorporated into the class, enhancing the benefits of the poses significantly.

This is an on-going series of workshops exploring the Yamas and Niyamas. These are the foundations of yoga as presented by Patanjali who wrote the Yoga Sutras over 2500 years ago. The Sutras instruct how to live in the world with a healthy relationship to ourselves and all those around us. We will do intentional asana, meditation, chanting and writing designed to help illuminate our relationship with these components of yoga.
Every month we will discuss and contemplate a different Yama or Niyama and bring a practical assignment into our life outside of the classroom. With attention to our own lives, attitudes and patterns, we can become more aware and able to live with compassion, intelligence and integrity. Oh yeah... and HAPPINESS! In the end we may ask our selves, "Did I live well? Did I love well?" Following these guidelines will help the answer to those questions be "YES!"
