AN EVENING OF KIRTAN with Jai Uttal and Daniel Paul on Tabla
Saturday, September 15, 7:00pm (doors at 6:30pm)
Advanced Tickets: $25 each, available online at www.prasadayoga.com or at the shala/$30 day of event
Embark on a vocal journey through the sacred sounds of ancient India. With call-and-response group chanting and storytelling, Jai Uttal and Daniel Paul create a space of invocation, prayer and
heartfelt expression.
Jai Uttal, a sacred music composer, recording artist, multi-instrumentalist and ecstatic vocalist, combines infl uences from India with infl uences from American rock and jazz, creating a stimulating
and exotic multi-cultural fusion that is truly world spirit music. Having traveled extensively in India, where he met many beautiful saints and singers, Bhakti yoga became his personal path. Jai has
been leading kirtans around the world for more than 30 years, creating a safe environment for people to open their hearts and voices.
Daniel Paul, a Fulbright Award winning Tabla drummer, Daniel has played a lifetime of world music with many diverse artists who share his love for the sacred music of India. From the strictly
classical musicians and dancers of the Ali Akbar College of Music, to the modern techno-laced chants of Lost at Last, and now accompanying Jai Uttal, Daniel continues to teach and tour worldwide,
introducing new audiences to the ecstatic rhythms of the Tabla.
• KIRTAN WORKSHOP with Jai Uttal and Daniel Paul
Sunday, September 16, 1:00 – 4:00pm • $65
Drawing from an unbroken tradition of Indian devotional singing, Jai will introduce the ancient practice of Kirtan (chanting), the heart of devotional yoga. This meditative practice of calling to
the divine creates a bridge between the individual and the eternal, opening the heart and welcoming the spirit. Jai will relate stories from the spiritual epics of India as well as from his personal
experiences to create a modern context in which to explore this tradition.
“These ancient chants contain a transformative power and healing energy,” writes Jai. “By singing these prayers and expressing a full-range of emotions through our voices, we join a stream of
consciousness and devotion that has been flowing for centuries.” No previous experience is needed. This is an exploration of the heart, independent of vocal or musical technique.

• Patanjali’s Yogasutra –
Explained, Chanted and Practiced with Chase Bossart of the Healing Yoga
Foundation – San Francisco
Ongoing – Monthly Seminars:
Saturday & Sunday. 1:00pm – 5:00pm , September 29/30, Friday 6:00-8:00pm and
regular Sat/Sun schedule October 26/27/28 • $75 a weekend,
$95 for October, $420 for full program paid by first session.
Meeting one weekend a month, we will go through the first chapter of
Patanjali’s Yogasutra word by word, sutra by sutra, unfolding the
multidimensional jewel of Yoga. Through this we will see that the
real
power of yoga lies not in the strength or vitality it gives the
physical body, but rather in the profoundly positive ways it changes
every part of our human system. Patanjali clearly explains how Yoga
refines the quality of mind, clears negative emotions, creates positive
habits/behaviors, improves our relationships, and brings forth profound
spiritual experiences.
Presented by the Healing Yoga Foundation,
the workshop is open to all levels and new comers will find it open and
accessible, just as advanced practitioners will find it rich and
informative. Each day will include 1 hour of chanting, 2 hours of
sutra explanation, and 1 hour of led practice designed to illuminate
ideas covered in the sutra’s explanation. Over the course
of six
weekends, we will spend 50 hours studying Patanjali’s Yogasutra,
students who take all six workshops will receive credit for 50 hours of
Yoga Sutra studies through the Yoga Shala Advanced Studies and Teacher
Training Program.
Chase
Bossart is a student of Mr. TKV Desikachar and a KHYF Certified Teacher
Trainer. Chase holds a M.A. in Religious Studies from UC Santa Barbara
where he wrote his thesis on Patanjali's Yogasutra, and he is on the
faculty at Loyola Marymount University’s Yoga Therapy Rx Program.
Chase
currently resides and teaches in San Francisco as part of the Healing
