Jack Mason In 1970 I was introduced to yoga at a dance camp with 8 weeks of daily early morning classes in silence. In 1974, while deep in the woods near Washougal, a fellow crawled across the tipi floor to retrieve ‘Light on Yoga’ by BKS Iyengar. Enthralled by the photos and text, I studied from the book. Soon, maybe too soon, I began teaching from the book, for no charge, as I learned more of this strange form. Many years and many teachers have ensued as I delved more deeply. In 1980 and 1981 there were trips to study with Mr. Iyengar at his studio in Pune, India. Over the years there have been deep connections with Ramanand Patel and Angela Farmer, the yang and yin of yoga for me. I see myself more as a movement teacher than a yoga teacher. In the somatic experience of new movement forms I hope to show you a path to classical asanas and a calm stance that yields to the forces of nature, when you are 70, 80, 90 years old and beyond. |
