Kat Macmillan began to practice yoga with a copy of “The Sivananda Guide to Yoga.” Alone in the garden in the mornings breathing and moving a seed was planted. She moved to New York city in 1998 and discovered Sharon Gannon & David Life of Jivamukti yoga and that seed grew into a passionate practice. Through intense study at Jivamukti, Kat was introduced to other amazing teachers including Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, whom she had the pleasure to study Mysore Ashtanga with in 2000. That same year she trained to teach with Alison West, of Yoga Union, also in New York and became influenced by Alison’s style of teaching which combines Iyengar awareness of alignment with a Vinyasa flow.
Kat loves to interweave music and chanting into class as well as yogic philosophy in order to calm the mind and let the body be! Study of raga singing and lots of Kirtan have played a big part in her practice. She would like to thank some of the other amazing teachers she studied with while in New York including Maria Rubinate, Christopher Hildebrandt, Barabara Verrochi, Kevin Gardiner, Ginny Kapular and Mark Whitwell. In addition to her yoga practice Kat is a doula, a mom and a performer.
